Little Gardeners

Get out your garden gloves and your watering cans — it is time to start planting! Discover the life of a seed and how plants grow by starting your very own mini garden to take home. There will be plenty of digging in the dirt so make sure to wear your gardening clothes!

Van Transportation

Warner can provide transportation to and from the Science Museum of Minnesota in St. Paul for all-day (9:30 a.m.–3:30 p.m.) camps for participants ages 6 to 18. Transportation costs $12 daily per child. The van leaves the Science Museum at 8:45 a.m. and returns at 4:15 p.m. Van space is limited and spaces will be filled on a first-come, first-serve basis so register early. Van shuttle service is contingent on a minimum number of riders registering each week. Transportation for off-site portions of WNC’s summer camps will be provided by WNC, and those transportation costs are included in the camp fees. Transportation costs for camps having an overnight will be reduced by $12 per day of the overnight.

Advanced Digital Nature Photography

Learn how to compose stunning pictures in this hands-on class. Each camper will get to use one of Warner’s digital cameras to capture the beauty and mystery to be found in our 600 acres. We’ll photograph flowers, landscapes and even live birds of prey. Each student will select one photo for a large print to take home. You’ll also get to take home a CD burned with all of the images you took during the week. This class will teach the basics of how to become a polished nature photographer. You do not need to have taken Beginning Digital Nature Photography to register. Class size is limited 8.

Bug's Life

This class will take you into the amazing world of bugs. Learn about the different life cycles, feeding habits, homes and defenses of these creatures by watching them up close in their natural habitats. We’ll get an even closer look by doing some “catch and release” of these swimming, flying, jumping, running and crawling critters using the nets that we will make during class.

Girls Fishing

Don’t be scared to bait your hook! You can take that fish off yourself! In this camp for girls, we’ll learn the basics of fishing, fish identification, and how to be a safe angler. We’ll fish the lakes of Warner from shore and from our solar pontoon boat, The Water Strider. Class size is limited to 10.

Radical Reptiles & Amazing Amphibians

Can turtles crawl out of their shells? Do all snakes have teeth? Can frogs survive a Minnesota winter? Discover the answers to these questions and more! We will explore Warner Nature Center in search of radical reptiles and amazing amphibians and meet our captive herpetofauna up close and personal.

Games Forest and Field

This camp originates from a brainstorm between WNC naturalists and camp participants. Giant nature center wide games such as Predator/Prey and Capture the Flag will be the foundation for this camp. Campers will be challenged to work together, think as a team, and of course run like mad. We’ll have fun outdoors while also exploring cool habitats and learning how animals survive in the wild. In between games, we’ll take in some favorite summer camp activities such as bird banding. Class size is limited to 24 with two instructors.

Introduction to Fly Fishing

Coaxing a fish to strike a fly that you have created is a rewarding moment. Learn the magic of fly-fishing, from tying a wooly bugger to reading the water and learning about the natural histories of the fish you are after. Learn the basic “hows” and “whys” of this art and science and learn a lifelong sport. We’ll put our new skills to practice on nearby waters during this exciting camp. Fly rods are provided for class use. Cost includes fly tying materials. Class size is limited to 10.

Mammals of MN

Which mammal can fly? Which mammal can glide? Which mammal is poisonous? Which mammal raises their young in a pouch? These are just a few of the questions we will set out to answer in this week of exploration. Each day we will focus on a different species, habitat, and animal sign, using the site and the extensive natural history collection housed at Warner. This camp will give you new respect and knowledge for the 77 other mammal species that share MN with us.
