Frequently Asked Questions about Benefits

Q: My son is in college and he's over 18, is he covered under my membership?
A: Yes, at the Darwin and above memberships, you are able to bring two additional guests at no charge—every time you visit.

Q: How do I redeem my free household gift membership?
A: A Curie-level (and above) member is given a household-level membership voucher to give as a gift. The recipient of the gift simply completes and mails the voucher to the Development Office.

Q: Are the special events free of charge?
A: Charges for events vary from event to event. However, the July 4 Fireworks Event is complimentary to donors at the Einstein level (and above) with space limitations.

Q: I do not want to be listed in the Annual Report. How do I let you know this?
A: Call the Development Office at (651) 265-9870 and request that your name not be published.

Q: Do the free guest admissions include special exhibitions?
A: Yes, your guests receive the same admission benefits covered under your membership.

Q: How does the Science Museum respect my privacy?
A: The Science Museum of Minnesota adheres to the donor bill of rights and is compliant with the Charities Review Council standards on ethical fundraising.

Q: What is the tax-deductibility of my Supporting Membership?
A: Tax-Deductibility of contributions to the Science Museum The amount of your contribution that is deductible for federal income tax purposes is limited to the amount of your gift, less the value of certain membership benefits you are entitled to receive. The Science Museum of Minnesota estimates the value of those benefits as follows:

$10,000-$24,999 (Aristotle) Gift is fully tax-deductible
$25,000-$49,999 (Newton) Gift is fully tax-deductible
$50,000 and up (Galileo) Gift is fully tax-deductible

 

The full amount of your contribution is tax-deductible if you have notified the Development Office at the Science Museum in writing that you do not wish to receive member benefits.
