Accessibility features and amenities

Visitors can find all gender and family restrooms on level 4 near the Native American exhibit.

Three different food service locations, including Chomp on level 3, offer food options that suit many needs and preferences.

Looking for secure storage for jackets, bags, and other treasures? Lockers of various sizes are located in the lobby on either side of the Box Office.

You'll find charging stations for your electronic devices in the lobby and throughout the exhibit galleries.

The new Wellness Room on level 4 provides a space to nurse a child, pray or meditate, or retreat and recharge.

At the Science Museum of Minnesota, we know that fun and learning looks different for every visitor. We want you to focus on the engaging exhibits during your visit, so we have incorporated a number of amenities to make your visit as fun-filled and hassle-free as possible.

Storing Personal Belongings and Strollers
Some visitors travel light; others have a lot of gear for a trip out of the house...especially during a snowy winter like this one! Rental lockers of various sizes are available in the lobby for storing outerwear and personal belongings for the duration of your visit. Families with small children are welcome to bring strollers for their visit. We also have them available for rent at the Box Office.

Wheelchair accessibility
If a member of your family or group uses a wheelchair, you can find accessible parking spaces in the Science Museum's parking facility. If you are dropping off someone in a wheelchair, you may enter the ramp and drop off on whatever level is most convenient. If you are in the ramp for less than 15 minutes, you will not be charged upon departure. Wheelchairs are also available at the Box Office.

Amplified Audio Units and written scripts are available for the Omnitheater's giant screen films. Audio Description is available for most films. Inquire at the Box Office or when making ticket reservations.

Sensory Friendly visitors
The Science Museum is committed to welcoming visitors for whom a typical visit might feel overwhelming or stressful. If you're visiting with someone who learns best in a calmer museum environment, check out the tools we've recently developed. Download a sensory friendly visitor guide, and get an advance glimpse of your visit with social narratives for the exhibits and the Omnitheater. Noise dampening headphones are available for visitor use on a first come, first served basis. Inquire at the Box Office or when making ticket reservations.

Please note, too, that the third Sunday of each month is designated as a Sensory Friendly Sunday. Developed in consultation with the Autism Society of Minnesota, Sensory Friendly Sundays feature an early exhibit gallery opening time and a 9 a.m. lights-up, sound-down Omnitheater show at which our visitors can feel free to get up, walk, sing, and dance.

All Gender and Family Restrooms
All Gender and Family restrooms are located on level 4 behind the We Move and We Stay Native American exhibit. These restrooms can be used for those who need a private or gender neutral restroom. An adult changing facility is also available. Please speak to staff for assistance.

Nursing Areas
Mothers are welcome to nurse throughout the museum. If you would like a private area, our brand new Wellness Room is located on level 4 near the RACE exhibit. The family restrooms on level 4 behind We Move and We Stay are also equipped with a chair for nursing.

Wellness Room
Located on level 4 near the RACE exhibit, the brand new Wellness Room is a quiet, private space for visitors to nurse a child, pray, or simply take a break from a busy museum. The Wellness Room is available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Food Options
The museum offers three dining options for visitors: Chomp on Level 3, Java Lab on Level 5, and Elements Cafe on Level 6.

Electronic charging stations
Don’t fret if your phone battery is running low! You'll find charging stations for your electronics throughout the exhibit galleries and in the lobby. Look for benches with easy-to-reach outlets. Charging stations have regular electrical outlets, as well as USB outlets.

Extended hours
Spring Break has begun for students and families throughout Minnesota. The Science Museum is now open on Mondays, and we'll be observing extended hours for Spring Break visitors. Come race a T. rex, take a selfie with a giant astronaut, see a Science Live Theatre performance, check out the new Game Changers exhibit, enjoy a forty-minute warm weather getaway with CUBA in the Omnitheater, and so much more. It's the biggest entertainment in town!

Spring Break extended hours (until April 3):
Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays: 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays: 9:30 a.m. to 9 p.m.
Sundays: 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
