Cortisone

Until 1950, sufferers of rheumatoid arthritis, a debilitating condition, had no treatment for their pain and suffering. Two Mayo Clinic staff members, Edward Kendall, Ph.D. biochemist, and Philip Hench, M.D., rheumatologist, partnered to develop this “bench to bedside” innovative medicine. For their work, they received the 1950 Nobel Prize for Medicine.
