Saint Paul, Minn. — The Science Museum of Minnesota has announced a partnership with St. Paul’s BlackStack Brewing to create limited-edition Thunder Lizard IPA crowlers and unveil them to the public at a free event at BlackStack on Tuesday, June 5 at 5 p.m.
The Science Museum was thrilled by the community’s excitement for the Thunder Lizard hoodie, which appeared in season two of the popular Netflix original show Stranger Things in fall of 2017. In response to customer demand, the museum brought the hoodie back from its archives (it was available for sale in the museum’s gift shop in the 1980s). Sales from apparel resulted in over $500,000 dollars raised and a portion of those proceeds allowed the Science Museum to purchase and custom-design a van that will be utilized for tours to schools and communities around Minnesota. The van will bring unforgettable science demonstrations to schools within all 87 counties, covering 45,000 miles.
To thank fans and the community for purchasing Thunder Lizard apparel and funding the van purchase, the June 5 event will:
- Debut Thunder Lizard IPA (ABV: 6.6%), with a portion of proceeds benefiting the Science Museum - photo below
- Unveil the van’s design and showcase its capabilities to the public
- Host music by the Badinovs (Song “Blackout" is featured in Season 2 of Stranger Things)
- Showcase hands-on science displays and demonstrations
“Our team at the Science Museum was thrilled to see people of all ages get excited about Thunder Lizard apparel,” says the Science Museum’s Director of Communications Kim Ramsden. “Before we put the Thunder Lizard apparel in the vault our team wanted to host a thank you event and give fans something new to be excited about this summer, the Thunder Lizard IPA.”
The Thunder Lizard IPA will be sold in crowlers the day of the event for $12. Only 100 will be made for purchase at the event, with additional beer available on tap at the event. Thunder Lizard beer will be in select retails where BlackStack is carried beginning June 11 while supplies last.
“BlackStack is honored to be a part of this unique tie to Stranger Things the Science Museum team has found themselves part of,” says BlackStack’s Cooper Johnson. “Our team at BlackStack worked tirelessly to find the perfect brew that would live up to the Thunder Lizard hoodie’s hype. We look forward to working with the Science Museum in the future and hope everyone enjoys our first run.”
BlackStack Brewing doors will open at 5 p.m. with the van unveiling, with speeches from Science Museum and BlackStack spokespeople set to begin at 6 p.m. A science demonstration will follow the programming, in addition to science activities being available throughout the event.
