Solids, Liquids, and Gases 3-5 | Science Museum of Minnesota

Solids, Liquids, and Gases 3-5

About this Experience

Solids, Liquids, and Gases 3-5

Introduce your students to the science of chemistry through the use of unique, engaging demonstrations. Invite students to explore the properties of solids, liquids, gases. Discover how changes in energy can transform these states of matter, sometimes with unexpected results. Chemical reactions with color changes and blazing test tubes will inspire students to investigate more about chemistry.

PROGRAM OPTIONS: Solids, Liquids, and Gases 3-5 is available only as a large group assembly.

ASSEMBLY MAX: 250 students

DURATION: 50 minutes (all 3-5 assemblies)

Learning Goals
  • To demonstrate the three phases of matter.
  • To introduce energy as a concept different from matter.
  • To introduce the scientific method by having students predict results of experiments, perform experiments and notice outcomes.
  • To offer a working model of atomic behavior as it relates to phase change.
  • To demonstrate phase change.
