Engineering K-2

About this Experience

Engineering K-2

What do sleds, glue and other everyday objects have in common? They are all technology and were designed by engineers. Student volunteers discover how technology solves different kinds of problems, and then test a technology to see how well it performs in different situations. They put the engineering design process into use by building a tower using an unexpected construction tool.

PROGRAM OPTIONS: Engineering K-2 is available as either a large group assembly or an in-depth residency.

ASSEMBLY MAX: 150 students

DURATION: 40 minutes (all K-2 assemblies)

Learning Goals
  • Engineers use math, science and creative thinking to design solutions to problems.
  • Engineers test and observe solutions to see how well they solve a given problem.

  • Engineers ask, imagine, plan, create and improve again and again until they reach a solution to the problem.
