Engineering Immersion Residencies

Innovative in-classroom experiences that combine teacher professional development with dynamic engineering instruction for students.

Outcomes
Intensive evaluation has demonstrated that students perform better on science and engineering assessments—and teachers facilitate science and engineering lessons more effectively—after an immersion residency.

Curriculum
Inquiry-based and standards-driven, the Engineering is Elementary curriculum presents engineering content and skills linked to the science and math students are already learning. Students also develop essential 21st-century skills such as problem solving, critical thinking, and effective communication by engaging in real-world engineering challenges.

Structure
Experienced museum instructors visit a classroom for one to eight days to model the delivery of EiE curriculum and discuss facilitation strategies with the classroom teacher. Teachers are invited to observe their students or co-teach lessons as best supports their own professional development, with the goal of being prepared to teach EiE units on their own the following year.

Program Costs: $195/classroom session (travel fees may apply)
