We want to start a conversation about what it means to be a kid. The goal of Wonder Years is to ensure that all children benefit from the growing body of knowledge about the science of early childhood development and get the best start in life. That's why we're partnering with Public Agenda, a non-profit that helps communities create the conditions for thoughtful civic dialogue, to start the conversation.
Brighter Futures: Childhood in Balance
Brighter Futures is a short program produced in partnership with the Minnesota Channel of tpt.
Adults who emerged from challenges that came early in life offer their personal and compelling stories about what brought their lives back into balance. Therapists, scholars and parents add their experiences and expertise in this look at the importance of creating balance in early childhood.
For channel listings in your area, check the Brighter Futures: Childhood in Balance page on tpt's website.
A series of Citizen Conferences was held in the Twin Cities and outstate Minnesota in 2011. A diverse mix of parents, community members, state and local policymakers, early childhood advocates and interested citizens gathered for half-day working sessions to discuss what society's responsibility is to children ages 0-5. The Conferences were carefully designed to ensure voices from across the community were heard.
The larger Citizen Conferences are augmented by small-group Issue Conversations. Organizations and community groups are encouraged to consider how the exhibition and programs can further their own efforts at education or coalition-building. Priority is given to those working with low income populations.
