Field Trips - Grades K-6
The Lee & Rose Warner Nature Center provides an ideal location for your class to visit over 600 acres of forest, grassland, bog, and lakes inhabited by native wildlife such as deer, beaver, raccoon, mink, turtles, frogs, insects, and both resident and migratory birds.
The nature center's Trailside Museum building houses biological collections, mounted wildlife displays, live animal displays, three classrooms, and restrooms. Bag lunches may be eaten indoors or outdoors at nearby picnic tables. No food or beverages are available for sale.
School program costs are underwritten by the generous support of the Lee & Rose Warner Foundation. A donation of $1-$3 per student is greatly appreciated, however. Schools unable to make such a donation will not be excluded from participation in the program.
Our school programs are geared principally for children in grades 3-6, though we regularly conduct specialty programs for other grade levels. Our minimum group size is 20 students and our maximum is 70 students. Our classes begin with a 30-minute indoor presentation by a naturalist, after which students are divided into small groups for a variety of indoor and outdoor activities with volunteer trail guides. Each class is typically 2 hours in length, and we encourage groups to spend the whole day (4-5 hours) at Warner so they can take two classes. We strive to be outside as much as possible, so students should come prepared for all types of weather.
Our school program calendar is now full for the 2008-2009 school year. Registration begins in late March for the following school year.
If you are interested in being on the wait list for the 2008-2009 school year or would like more information about our school programs, please contact Assistant Director Julie Grecian at or (651) 433-2427 ext. 12.
