Join a Warner naturalist for these fun events for all ages! Pre-registration is required. Wear casual clothing appropriate for the weather and hands-on activities. For more information or to register, call the nature center at (651) 433-2427 ext. 10.

December 2008

Trailside Club: Winter Brrrds!
Saturday, December 6, 9:30-11:30 a.m.

Registration deadline: December 3
Who fluffs up downy feathers to stay warm? Birds, of course! Learn about which Minnesota birds stay around all year. Make winter treats for our bird friends. $12 per family (children 3-9 and their families)

An Adventure with Lonnie Dupre
Saturday, December 6, 6-9 p.m.

Registration deadline: December 4
Warner Nature Center and the Millstream Association team up to host Arctic explorer, Lonnie Dupre, of Grand Marais. Learn about the wonders of the Arctic, setting and reaching goals, and what can be done to combat global warming. FREE Friends of Warner and Millstream/$7 per person non-members (ages 13+)

Ultimate WINTER Survival!
Tuesday, December 30, 9:15 a.m. - 3:15 p.m.

Registration deadline: December 26
Try out your survival skills in the winter woods of Warner. Join us as we put on our snowshoes to trek through the woods. We'll build a giant quinzhee snow shelter and bake backwoods bannock bread while we enjoy a day of winter fun. Parents take note! This is a great way to have your child supervised, learning and having fun if you can't be with them during their time away from school! $45 Friends of Warner / Science Museum members; $50 nonmembers (ages 9-11)

Owl & Snowshoe Hike
Saturday, January 17, 7-9 p.m.

Registration deadline: January 14
Join us for an exciting night exploring the woods of Warner. Meet our resident barred owl before heading out on a snowshoe (conditions permitting) night hike calling to the owls of Warner's woods. $4 Friends of Warner / Science Museum members; $6 nonmembers (all ages)

February 2009

Women's Evening Snowshoe
Friday, February 6, 7-10 p.m.

Registration deadline: January 30
Girlfriends, mothers, daughters, sisters, aunts...this event is geared just for women. A nocturnal outing on snowshoes, with much light-hearted laughter, a spirit of sisterhood and nature. If there is not sufficient snow for snowshoeing, we will hike instead. $8 Friends of Warner / Science Museum members; $10 nonmembers (ages 13+)

Trailside Club: Making Tracks
Saturday, February 7, 9:30-11:30 a.m.

Registration deadline: February 5
Learn to identify animal tracks, while designing your own track T-shirt. Be a detective as we go outdoors to look for the tracks of animals like deer, fox, and squirrels. (Please bring along a t-shirt or other article to decorate.) $12 per family (children 3-9 and their families)

Introduction to Snowshoeing
Sunday, February 8, 1-4 p.m.

Registration deadline: February 5
Explore the winter wonders of Warner while discovering the ancient art of snowshoeing. Learn the history as well as basic snowshoeing techniques, then go on a snowshoe hike through Warner's woods. Snowshoes will be provided. *Program will be cancelled if there are not sufficient snow levels. $7 Friends of Warner / Science Museum members; $10 nonmembers (ages 6+)

Winter Blizzard Blast
Saturday, February 21, 1-5 p.m.

No registration required
Celebrate winter at our fourth annual winter celebration for all ages! Join us for a special afternoon when Warner Nature Center partners with Positive Energy for Youth to bring you fun activities including hiking on our snowcovered trails, winter animal tracking, quinzhee building, sled dog-mushing for kids, and one-horse open sleigh rides. Come with your friends and family for an afternoon of fun and hot chocolate! Cost is $5 adults, $3 children ages 3-12, FREE children 2 and younger (please pay in cash at the gate).

We have had over 300 people attending this event in recent years so if parking fills up, we will ask you to park at the May Town Hall south of the nature center on Norell Avenue. Warner will provide a shuttle service at no charge. Please come to the Warner gate first to see if off-site parking is necessary.

Trailside Club: Whooo's Who?
Friday, March 6, 6:30-8:30 p.m.

Registration deadline: March 3
It's a busy time in Warner Woods. The owls have established their territories and are nesting. Find out all about owls and what makes them special, then explore the woods as we go owling. Bring a flashlight! $12 per family (children 3-9 and their families)

Maple Syruping Days
Sunday, March 22, 1-4 p.m.
Saturday, March 28, 9 a.m. - noon

Registration deadline: March 19 and 25
Join us for a day in the sugar bush! Learn about the history of maple syrup tapping, watch a tree-tapping demonstration and taste some fresh syrup! Demonstrations will take place every hour on the hour. Please arrive 5 minutes before the hour program begins. $5 adults, $3 children 3-12 years, FREE children 2 years and younger

Starwatch Party with Mike Lynch
Thursday, March 26, 8-10 p.m.

Registration deadline: March 23
Make the stars your old friends as we watch the great celestial show over St. Croix Valley. Presentation starts off with an indoor orientation followed by quality time outside using large reflecting telescopes for close up views of late star clusters, nebulae, galaxies and other celestial treasures in our winter skies. FREE Friends of Warner members; $5 per person non-members

April 2009

Trailside Club: Peepers and Creepers
Friday, April 24, 6:30-8:30 p.m.

Registration deadline: April 22
The ponds are alive with the songs of frogs. Get acquainted with these "early risers" while enjoying an evening serenade. $12 per family (children 3-9 and their families)

Trailside Club: Early Birds
Saturday, May 16, 9:30-11:30 a.m.

Registration deadline: May 13
How exciting to be a bird in springtime! Come learn about Minnesota birds. Enjoy a bird banding demonstration where we put bracelets on live birds. $12 per family (children 3-9 and their families)

Geology Rocks!
Saturday, May 17, 10 a.m. - noon

Registration deadline: May 11
Join us for a rockin' good time as you explore Warner Nature Center's habitats to learn about the geology of Minnesota. Young geologists will examine rocks and learn about rock classification followed up by a fun rock hike with a naturalist. $3 Friends of Warner / Science Museum members; $5 nonmembers (ages 10+)
