CANCELED Astronomy Day and Night

Week 8: August 10-14, 2009
Cost: $160 Friends of Warner / Science Museum members; $180 nonmembers

What better way to learn the stars than by camping out at Warner? Study the sun, stars, nebulas and galaxies by day and then test your skills with a camp-out under the stars! View nebulas, planets and the moon though large telescopes. Our camp-out will coincide with the peak of the Perseid meteor shower. During the day, students will experiment with lasers and construct a Galileo style telescope to learn about optics, study spectral emissions of stars and light sources as well as track the motion of the sun through the sky. We'll also learn constellations in our inflatable planetarium! This is a great introduction to observational astronomy for those students with a passion for the night sky. Special note: This class includes an overnight on either Wednesday or Thursday (weather dependent).
