Summer Camp Assistants Volunteer Program
LEADERSHIP OPPORTUNITY FOR YOUTH (AGES 14-18)
High school students, are you thinking about a future career in education or the environment? If so, Warner Nature Center is the place to be this summer!
Become a Summer Camp Assistant (SCA) and learn important skills in how to work effectively with youth, peers and mentors. Gain valuable community service experience for college while learning how to lead young children in summer camp activities. Best of all, learn a little more about yourself and the value of sharing your love of nature with a child!
During SCAT (SCA Training), volunteers will participate in teambuilding activities to get to know one another and the Warner Nature Center naturalists. They will learn leadership skills and education techniques for working with children in preparation for helping with summer camps. SCAs interested in First Aid & CPR certification are invited to attend a one-day workshop on Thursday, June 19. This workshop is free of charge and is not required for SCA participation.
New Summer Camp Assistants and 2007 1st-year SCAs are required to attend our two-day training, June 16-17, while those returning for a third (or more) year, only need to attend June 17. All are invited to attend an exciting day of adventure—filled with bird banding, canoeing, and hikes on June 18. Those individuals interested in obtaining or renewing their First Aid or CPR certification can attend a free training on June 19.

Upon completion of the required one or two-day training, Summer Camp Assistants are required to assist with one or more weeks of summer camp, helping staff naturalists to prepare and teach classes, and serve as role models for young campers.
