What have I been up to?

Wilson's class have been studying animal tracks.  They have learned that by following an animal's tracks, it leads to their source of food or shelter.  Ms. Wilson wanted the students to create a project to demonstrate this understanding of animal tracks.  See attached file for detailed lesson plan.  We've completed session one and two.  I will post a final student project when we're done.

Keith's Visit

Thank you! Thank you Keith for visiting Galtier on Dec. 10th.  We had 10 teachers who showed up to learn more about Scratch.  Keith did a great job at simplifying Scratch  and Pico Boards for the teachers and many have expressed interest in looking forward to exploring Scratch more on their own as well as working on future projects in the lab with me.  Again, a big THANKS!

Observation

Molly came for her observation time on Thursday. It was a hectic day with students coming and going but I think we were able to share some of the projects my 8th grade students were proud of.

An update on TIES presentation and another Scratch window into scratch projects

Hi all - I've posted the slides I made for the TIES presentation I made with Karen Randall who teaches at Expo Elementary and Evelyn Eastmond. Evelyn is from the Scratch development team. She is in charge of coordinating all of the Scratch translation of the Application, the Scratch website and the support materials. ( currently at 42 languages!)

Our presentation was to talk about the background of the translation effort and the opportunities there are for global collaboration through Scratch.

Dissemination Workshop Brainstorm

This workshop will be led by the educators that have participated in the TwT project over the last 5 months. What kind of resources should be presented? What skill sets would you like to share with fellow professional educators? What can we learn from Keith's most recent Scratch presentations at TIES and at Gaultier? Share your ideas by posting a comment!

Next Meetings: Share your availability

Let us know when you are available to meet in the Learning Technologies for our next meeting by visiting this doodle poll.  We will meet for the first 2 hours and then you will have an hour to post to our website. We will begin work on the dissemination piece. This planning will continue and finish at our meeting in the early part of February. Which dates work for you for the planning meeting? Please visit this poll.

SCRATCH presentation at TIES

Keith
Can you post your presentation from TIES...I'd love to save those projects as my favorites and I loved the Rubric from one of the people you showcased.  I learned a lot about SCRATCH and so many more ways to use SCRATCH.  Great job at the conference, thanks for sharing!

Time for projects, limiting myself limits my kids

As I am still helping my kids get done with our first major project I have come to realization that it takes second graders a long, long time to finish a project. I guess I already knew that but had hoped I was wrong.

Anyone know of any great Scratch Games to download?

Okay, so my next project is to work with a group of 5th grade students to create an interactive map of their book...Island of the Blue Dolphins.  So each of the kids are going to draw their own island as the stage and then they are required to create four interactive features on their island.  The interactive features would be things that related to the book...about the characters, setting, plot or major events.  Creating the interactive map with information for each sprite would be part one...but then I wanted to expand the project so that kids could make this interactive map a
