My observation of Molly's 5th grade class

I enjoyed visiting Molly's class last week. The 5th graders were working on their projects of a book review of the book "The Island of the Blue Dolphins".  The students were working on adding content to their scratch projects.  Most of them had the art part completed and now were working on creating a sprite to be a "tour guide" around the island they had created. This was a great way to show another avenue for students to do an interactive book review instead of paper/pencil.  The students were very creative!

Good to be back

It is good to be back on line and in business. For those of you who have never had a major computer crash you might not understand my situation. The motherboard on my computer went out two weeks ago and I have been trying to recover the hard drive ever since. (With lots of support from the technology people) Well I have the drive now and can again access the docs but now have to reorganize it to a smaller and slower machine. This has affected my ability to work with the kids because all my data was on the drive I couldn't access.

Schoolwide Enrichment Model (SEM)

So finally after identifying the students and figuring out schedules my SEM group is up and running.  I'm working with 4 boys (3 six graders and 1 fourth grader).  We meet for 50 minutes every Monday.  Of the four boys, three have had some exposure to Scratch and my 4th grader is new to Scratch.

We meet for the first time last week, went over expectations and then they started animating their name.  This was to get the 3 boys back into Scratch and opportunity to have the 4th grader explore.

Observation of Amy and Jamie

Before winter break I had the opportunity to observe Amy at her school just a few blocks away from my office!  It was so great to just step inside another school to see what life was like in another world.  Amy also teaches older students so it was great to be surrounded by students older than I am used to.  As I walked into the computer lab the students were just opening their SCRATCH projects.  They had been working on holiday greeting cards and were using this time for more work time.  It amazed me to walk around and see what the students had created.  I have b

Committments and Constraints Continue

I want to express my appreciation to all of you for your help and support with Scratch and the Picoboards this year- I have enjoyed learning so much!  It has been a priviledge to work with such talented educators that are so passionate about technolgy and inspiring young ones!  With a new position at work and classes at Hamline to complete my administration license while keeping up with demands of a family at home is very overwhelming so I'm requesting to withdraw myself from this grant opportunity at this time.  I wou

Uploading Scratch files

Please help!  Our lab is older and when my students try to upload their projects onto the Scratch website it never finishes loading therefore I am stuck and I'd like to figure out a way that students can share their projects with each other.  Does anyone have any ideas???  Their projects are on the desktop right now and I am having issues using a jump drive and even uploading them to our server isn't responding well??? Thanks for any support ideas you can offer.
