Two New Project Ideas

I'm excited about my two new SCRATCH project ideas because the relate directly to curriculum that my Edina teachers are teaching.  I'm gaining clarity on how SCRATCH can be used in the classroom and focus on curriculum.  First I thought that SCRATCH would be  more about gaming but now I am starting to see some curriculum integration.

First, with a group of fourth grade students who study MN history, we are going to create animated timelines of MN history events.  The other idea we had was to create a cause and effect situation on SCRATCH.  I still need to work the details out but I'm excited about these ideas.

Second, I'm going to work with a group of 3rd grade students who are reading a book titled The Green Book.  There is a lot of figurative language in this book and the students are just learning about similies, metaphores, idoms and so on.  Students are going to take one of the uses of figurative language and draw what the figurative language would look like literally.  Third grade students have a hard time learning what figurative means so this will be a fun application for students to express some creativity in their learning of figurative language!

I'll post when we have sample projects!
