Notes from 10/08 Meeting

Check-In

  • Amy has been using Scratch with her students and they are loving it! She created some of her own tools to help her kids learn the idea of using an x,y grid
  • Molly met with her teachers and has 4 people she will be working with.  Keith and Sabrina will be visiting her COP meeting on October 20th to talk about Scratch and offer support
  • Maijue and Lyne have had some delays due to a new administrative directory in the entire district.  Lyne just got her students started on Scratch this past week. Maijue is planning on working with her gifted and talented group.

Each teacher gave an informal presentation of their plan for using Scratch with their students.  They emphasized the importance of introducing small concepts and then letting the students go back to their computer and try it themselves – something new – play – something new- play – something new – play.  Students need time to explore and share their discoveries with each other.

Keith shared some ideas for integrating ScratchBoards into the classroom and it was agreed that our next meeting should be a ScratchBoard workshop that focuses on basic circuits and exploring conductivity with graphite.

We agreed that we would use our website more and Keith showed us how to subscribe to the RSS feed so we can track new postings better.

The cohort has still not received their checks.  Sabrina is looking into this and will notify you of the status via email.

Finally we had an interesting discussion about twittering.
