The
tricuspid valve is an atrioventricular valve, because
it serves as the border between the right atrium and
the right ventricle.
All
valves serve the same purpose, to regulate the flow of blood
throughout the heart. When the three flaps of the
tricuspid valve are open, the blood is free to flow
into the right ventricle. When the valve is closed
the flow of blood between the two chambers is
stopped.
