BARTON OPEN SCHOOL
Studio 3D at Clara Barton Open School takes place in
the classroom of Meri Gauthier, Science Specialist and enrichment teacher.
Students there have the opportunity to work on Studio 3D projects through
their regular science class; Topics classes, an enrichment program; and
Options classes, a palette of classes from which the students can select.
During the 2002/2003 school year, Molly Reisman spent Wednesdays there,
working with Meri Gauthier and her classes. Because Meri is the school's
Science Specialist, she sees all Barton students and we have the chance
to serve entire classes rather than limiting our programming to a smaller
audience. Enrichment classes are offered as well.
Our focus has been on integrating technology
and inquiry-based learning into classes so we have focused on circuits,
motion and electricity (Jitterbugs); mechanics, machines, sound, and programming
(Lego Chain Reaction Band and Simple Machines); shapes, structures, engineering,
and building materials (Structures); MicroWorlds programming (Digital
Art and MicroWorlds Stories). These classes expose students to technology
while giving them the chance to use it in creative ways of their choice.
