Challenge: Create the Strongest Electromagnet

An electromagnet is a magnet that can be turned on and off using electricity. These types of magnets are commonly used in cranes to pick up and move metal objects by turning the magnet on and off. In this activity, you will create your own electromagnet using a battery, wire, and a nail. Then you will make modifications to try to make your electromagnet stronger.

In the Star Wars universe, Sandcrawlers are huge treaded fortresses used by Jawas for transportation and shelter. These sand-pitted vehicles are equipped with magnetic suction tubes for pulling droids and scraps into their cargo chambers.
