Tue. 5-6-97
Hi,
I spent the night over Kasey's house. First in the car Kasey talked about me
to her family. Then we went to Ann & Hope to look at bikes, helmitts,
baseball mitts, baseball bats, and coolers. After that, Kasey, her mom,
Jeanine and I went to Kasey's house to get ready for gymnastics. I watched
very little T.V. while Kasey got dressed. Gymnastics was from 3:30 to 5:30.
When we got home supper was cooling, Kasey changed out of her Gymnastics suit
and into something more comfortable.
After supper, we read books. I read two pages. Then Kasey made me a souvenir
for the trip. It is a bead chain that said "FRANKIE" Take a look at it!
Then one of Kasey's friends Jonny came over and she had to put me away so I
would not get hurt by him. Meanwhile Kasey was playing on the computer. Then
Kasey brought me down with her.
It's getting late. We are going to watch a little T.V. and go to bed. I had a
great day with the Brown's

There are a lot of nice people in Watertown. (Bryan)
We have some small floods from the Charles River but we are lucky that
we have not had any huge floods. (Valerene)
In January our heating system broke and our classroom flooded. We had
to have class in the library for a week. Many things were destroyed in
our classroom. (Chris)
Do you like butterflies? What is your favorite kind?
We like butterflies very much. Last year we made a tent. We raised
Painted Lady butterflies in it. We got to go inside to observe them. We
saw how they use their proboscis to eat, we saw eggs, and caterpillars.
We didn't actually see a butterfly emerge from its chrysalis because it
took too long. This year we are going to use a special camera connected
to our computer. It will take pictures every couple minutes. We hope
we will be able to see the butterflies emerge. Some of our favorite
butterflies are monarchs, painted ladies and swallowtails.
How many kids are in your class?
We have 42 kids in our class. That sounds like a lot but it really
isn't because we are actually two classes working together. Our
teachers are Mrs. Fitzpatrick and Ms. King. We have both second and
third graders. We have a regular schedule but it changes during special
times. We have two classrooms and we switch classes for different
things like reading, math, science and social studies. Every one in our
class is really nice.
Questions for Frankie:
What have you seen?
So far I have seen many things. I have had a grand tour of this large
elementary school. I enjoyed a nice breakfast with the teachers on
Friday morning and joined their circus in the afternoon. It was great
fun! I have a new circus hat made especially for me. I also got to
visit a police station (the husband of one of the teachers works
there) and I sat in a window that overlooks the Charles River. This
window is very special because it is where Over the River and Through
the Woods was written. I will visit New Hampshire this week end and
am told that Monday will be very busy. I am expected at Harvard
University (I noticed a cap and gown on Ms. King's desk and it looks
like it might be my size!), as well as many historical sites in and
around Boston. I am very excited! I'll write again after Monday!
Frankie :-)
Do they go on fieldtrips?
Well, this classroom goes on many field trips. They are one block
away from the bus stop and Harvard Square is a short ride away. From
there you can connect to just about anywhere. This makes it very
convenient to take field trips. They have been studying whales via
The Voyage of the Mimi (you can connect to their whale web site
through the Hosmer School homepage). During this unit the class went
the OMNI Theatre at the Boston Science Museum to see a movie on
whales. They say it was great! The web page shows some of their
drawings which are based on their field trip. Some past trips have
included the theatre, ballet, butterfly farm, nature walks, and the
Boston Aquarium. On May 23 the class will go to the North Shore Music
Theatre to see the "Velveteen Rabbit". They are 'beary' excited!
They are also planning their annual end of the year picnic at a local
park.
Frankie :-)
