Hi Debi, Did Frankie make it there safe and sound? There is a page with questions for you and your students. http://www.sci.mus.mn.us/sln/monarchs/frankie/journal/journalhosmeradd.html Frankie goes onto Marjie next. He actually goes to her house and not the school because the school uses a post office box. Mike included the Fed Ex forms in the box - they should be there somewhere. You might even be able to get Fed Ex to come to the school and pick him up for delivery. Hope you enjoy Frankie. It has been really fun to hear about his adventures so far. -k

Hi Karen, I was going to email you because Frankie has not arrived. We had a welcome party scheduled for today and had to cancel it again. I guess you don't have any idea where he is either. If he arrives, I'll let you know. Debi

I just called Ted, he is going to contact Carol and find out where he is. And get the tracking number for me to try locating him too. I can't believe this has happened to you TWICE!!! Please do let me know if he arrives. -k

Ok. Ted just called, I know more now. Frankie is still in Florida. Carol is very ill, and going to the hospital. Frankie is at her home and the box of his things is at Avocado. Ted is arranging to pick up both and have them sent out today, hopefully. I will wait to hear more from Ted once he picks everything up. What does the rest of your week look like? Would you want to keep him a couple of extra days? Should we push his visit back again? I'm not sure what to do at this point, since it is already Tuesday. Let me know what you think. I'm writing to Marjie, I think they have an open house at school next Wednesday that she wanted him there for. You'd think with this amount of "un/reliability" we were in Mexico. If we do this type of thing again, we will purchase five look alike Frankies and dispose of all but one at the end ;) Sorry about this, again. You and Laura have been so well prepared and ready for him. -k

Oh Boy! I hope Carol is alright. We are on vacation next week so it might make more sense to send him off to Marj. I'm a little confused about when he has to be back in W. Virginia. If we get him the week after Marj we will run into May. Can his time away be extended? I feel like I've disappointed the kindergartners twice and want to be careful not to do it again. We do want to have him visit though. We have his cap and gown waiting and lots of juice (for his party) in my room. Parents have made teddy bear cupcakes twice now so I will just purchase something else if he really does make it here. It would be a shame if he had to miss his visit here because Boston is so rich with history. It would be great for the class in W. Virginia to experience it. We hope to take him to Cambridge, Lexington and Concord, Bunker Hill, Paul Revere's house etc. Anyway, we will be flexibe around the schedule if it helps. Debi

Hi Karen, Were things figured out around new scheduling for Frankie? Your idea of multiple Frankies is a good one. Actually, Laura and I had joked about finding an imposter. Anyway, let me know when we should look for him here. Also, I am a lead teacher in a technology grant our school received. I met a woman at our last training session who will be traveling to your area soon. She has just rec'd the Christa McAuliffe grant for next year. I told her great things about you and Mike in hope that it might make a nice connection for you. She is hoping to form some educational collaborations using the grant. We have talked about some possibilities between Hosmer and her school system. I don't know if you would be interested in getting involved. We can talk about it. In the meantime, she emailed you from my classroom on the day of the workshop and I just wanted to touch base with you and hope you don't mind that I told her about some of the great things the three of you are doing at your museum. Many thanks to all of you who helped get Frankie going again. Frankie was last seen leaving the Miami Museum of Science with a nice man from FedEx. He even let Frankie get in the truck with him, but I don't think he let Frankie drive. Frankie's cave had a label on it that said he was going to see Margie in Petaluma, CA. He should arrive by Thursday night or Friday morning. Frankie's delay was caused in part by his excellent bedside manner. When Carol was ill at home, Frankie could not be coaxed to leave her side, demanding that he stay until she seek proper medical attention. He could not bear to leave her! -Ted
