TRIBES II (Teaching Relevant Inquiry Based Environmental Science)

July 7-11 AND July 14-18, 2008

With funding from the Minnesota Department of Education Math and Science Partnership, the TRIBES II project aims to improve student achievement in science by enhancing teaching strategies and content knowledge of teachers serving American Indian students statewide. TRIBES II will provide extensive professional development with curriculum content and mentoring support for teachers of Native American students; it will help teachers advance their environmental science understanding with relevant math applications; and will provide an ongoing support network through American Indian Science & Engineering Society (AISES) and the Science Museum of Minnesota. TRIBES will also integrate indigenous and scientific ways of knowing, through an inquiry-based study of ecosystems and related sciences, to support a regionally relevant, culturally responsive, holistic approach to learning. Graduate credit, stipend, institute supplies, and lunch included.
