MUSE High School Teacher Institute
July 27-31, 2009 at the Science Museum of Minnesota
Presented by the Science Museum of Minnesota's Professional Development Team
MUSE institutes are designed to help educators develop more effective tools for STEM teaching and learning, including improved understanding of STEM subject matter integration, inquiry, the nature of science, culturally relevant curriculum, and student identity. The institutes will support teachers in translating these new understandings into practical classroom applications.
Each MUSE institute encompasses 30 hours of professional development, and includes lunch, parking, additional materials, and a one-year membership to Science House: A Resource Center for Educators at no charge. Participation is limited to 25 people per institute. Costs for the institutes are generously supported by the State of Minnesota. Upon completion of the institute coursework you will have a choice of two graduate credits from Winona State University or a stipend.
Participant Eligibility: Eligible participants are grades 9-12 science, technology, engineering, and/or math teachers who have a teaching assignment for the coming year in an accredited public or independent high school. Individuals with curriculum coordinating responsibilities for a school or district at the high school level and principals are also eligible. Please note that substitutes and homeschool teachers are not eligible for this institute.
Selection Criteria: Priority will be given to eligible grades 9-12 science, technology, engineering, and/or math educators applying as teams from the same building or district and to educators serving in full-time positions. Educators working with underserved populations and/or in rural Minnesota will also be given priority. Selection will be based on thoughtful responses to the application questions as well.
APPLICATION DEADLINE HAS PASSED.
