Infectious Disease Summer Institute

Participant Eligibility: For Secondary Life Science Teachers
Selection Criteria: Preference will be given grades 9-12 teachers (please call to determine applicability to your curriculum outside of this grade range), teachers applying as teams from the same building and teachers who are serving in full-time positions.
Join scientists, museum educators, and your colleagues for an engaging week of study of emerging infectious diseases. We will delve into some of the foundational techniques of microbiology and epidemiology, as well as hearing from experts in the field about current issues in infectious disease research and policy. This institute is designed to help teachers address substrands of the Minnesota Academic Standards in Science in History & Nature of Science and Life Science. It is a companion to the new Disease Detectives exhibit in the Human Body Gallery at the Science Museum, supported by funding from the National Institutes of Health. Upon completion of the coursework you will have a choice of 2 graduate credits from Hamline University or a stipend.
After you have registered, please print and mail your confirmation form with a $50 check payable to SMM. Your deposit will be returned to you on the first day of the Institute. There are no deposit refunds for cancellations after May 30, 2008.
