2010 Science and Mathematics Elementary and Middle Level
Principal of the Year Award
To honor the key role elementary and middle level principals play in creating a culture that encourages and celebrates math and science literacy, the Minnesota Elementary School Principals' Association (MESPA) and the Science Museum of Minnesota (SMM) co-sponsor the annual Science and Mathematics Principal of the Year Award.
The award is offered in alternate years to specialty and general education school principals. This year the award is offered to specialty schools: environmental, math, or science specialty/magnet schools. Applications for the 2010 Science and Mathematics Principal of the Year are due Wednesday, December 9, 2009.
The winner will be recognized at the annual Banquet and Awards Program on February 4 at MESPA Institute 2010, receiving a beautiful plaque and $400 worth of school programming from the Science Museum.
In reviewing applications, the award committee will look for such indicators as the following:
- Professional development and coaching for teachers
- Partnerships with other organizations
- Applying math and science standards to curriculum
- Support materials
- Out-of-school as well as in-school experiences
- Inclusion of families
- Other creative ways of fostering interest in math and science
The deadline for nominations is Wednesday, December 9, 2009.
