Engineering Field Day
The Engineering Field Day is a hybrid of interactive presentation and hands-on activities for students. The 30-minute presentation demonstrates how engineers use science, math, and creative thinking to solve problems and create new technologies. This is followed by 25-minute small-group sessions where students put their problem-solving abilities to the test!
Program Options: K-2 Engineering is only available as a one-day Field Day – a large-group assembly followed by up to six small-group sessions.
OPENING ASSEMBLY MAX: 350 students
GRADE: Class sessions are designed for students in grades K-2.
ROTATION SESSION FORMAT:
Rotation sessions take place following the large-group assembly. Students will get a short introduction to the stations and be reminded to use the engineering design cycle to plan, make, test, and improve their designs as they work. Schools can plan up to six rotation sessions per Field Day and should choose a rotation session format that will work best for their needs.
ACTIVITY STATION OPTIONS:
Choose two options for Structured format or up to three options for Student-led format.
This program requires schools to provide 6-8 volunteers in all rotation sessions to assist with stations. Volunteers will receive training from instructor prior to the large-group assembly.
