Electricity

Sparks fly, hair stands on end, and students are shocked as we demonstrate the science and technology of electricity! They'll create a human circuit to demonstrate the movement of charges and discover how magnets help to create electricity.

Program Options: Electricity is available either as a large group assembly or an in-depth residency.

Residency Option

OPENING ASSEMBLY MAX: 250 students
RESIDENCY CLASS MAX: 30 students
TIME: 50 minutes

Adding individual classroom sessions to our Electricity assembly creates a unique Electricity residency at your school.

GRADE: Class sessions are designed for students in grades K-6.

COST:

$225 per assembly
$115 per class session

CLASS TOPICS:

In these in-depth classroom sessions, students will...

• Static Electricity I - Grades K-1
  Investigate what objects hold a static charge by using an electroscope.
• Static Electricity II - Grades K-1
  Discover the "attracting" and "repelling" elements of magnets!
• Sources - Grades 2-4
  Explore five sources of electricity—magnetic, solar, chemical, piezoelectric, and static.
• Electromagnets - Grades 2-4
  Construct their own simple battery powered electromagnet.
• Current - Grades 4-6
  Discover which materials carry electricity and which do not and explore the differences between a series and parallel circuit.
• Magnetic Fields and Electricity - Grades 4-6
  Experiment with magnets and iron filings to create a visible magnetic field.
