The publication of the discoveries and insights of science is a necessary part of doing research. Scientific publications are an integral function of any research institution, such as the Science Museum of Minnesota, for they serve the purpose of disseminating knowledge and provide a forum for the contemplation, discussion, and sometimes disputation of research results.

Researchers at the Science Museum contribute articles on the process and results of their anthropological, biological, ecological, geological and paleontological research to the peer-reviewed literature. Since 1966 and continuing today, museum curators and research associates also publish in the museum's own two series, peer-reviewed since 2000, the Scientific Publications of the Science Museum of Minnesota and the Monographs of the Science Museum of Minnesota.
