5. Processing clay is done by hand...
Here, Irene Aguilar Alcántara breaks the large pieces of clay that her family digs into smaller pieces with a hammer. She will then soak the small pieces in water for several days to re-moisten it. |

...and by foot!
Then, a few days later, the re-moistened clay is kneaded by foot to give it an even consistency and moisture level. Here, Juan Carlos Zamora Aguilar, Irene's son, mixes clay on a straw mat.
