rough seed pods

4. The tools are sometimes unassuming.
These rough seed pods are rolled or stamped in wet clay by Guillermina Aguilar Alcántara to create a lace-like pattern on her figures. She uses the slice of dried gourd to trim excess clay off her pieces. The sisters also use broken pens, nails, wire, combs, and commercial potter's tools to create designs.
