3. The signature helps and hinders in identification.
The Aguilar sisters began signing when tourists and collectors began asking for signed artworks, and say that it helps to keep people from confusing one sister's work for another's. However, in some cases, their children sign figures with their mother's name, because that increases the value of the piece. Here, Josefina Aguilar Alcántara inscribes her signature in the wet clay figure.
