ASUS Eee Box!

Finally: a powerful, compact, cheap, awesome computer: the ASUS Eee Box B202. If I had it my way, these would be sprinkled across the LTC and Science Museum...

Sugar, software, Bender and Opensource

OLPC - Sugar -Constructionism

The New York times has an article about Walter Bender leaving the One Laptop Per Child project. It seems that the decision to work with Microsoft and to use their software led his departure. Bender is pretty interesting and the Sugar project seems to be important to our work...

Animation Software

Peter K., LTC instructor, told me about this stop motion animation software that is free and good:
SAM Animation: www.samanimation.com

You can use it with any webcam -- possibly other cameras, too. I need to try it, but this might be a good fix for the somewhat crashy software we use for the intelplay cameras (the blue ones) and the macs.

iStopMotion is another good tool, but not free.

Gender Disparities in IT Fields

"The survey data showed a notable disparity on one point: That men, relative to women, prefer to work with inorganic materials; women, in general, prefer to work with organic or living things. This gender disparity was apparent very early in life, and it continued to hold steady over the course of the participants' careers."

the Aviary!

The Aviary is being called the "Adobe CS3 killer": Photoshop, Illustrator....bang, bang....Premiere, After Effects, Acrobat.....bang, bang, bang.

I happen to love the Adobe suite of creative products, so why the excitement? Because the Aviary will be free and web-based

Maker Faire 2008 slideshow

Must try - Wii remote driven white board

Johnny Chung Lee wrote an application to combine a video projector, wii remote, infrared led and computer to make a smart white board. This seems like a good experiment for teaching applications like Scratch...

Vector Graphics are BEAUTIFUL

Vector graphics are composed of "just" lines and colors. Well, this is "just" beautiful.
