Goose Neck Camera Mounts

http://www.make-digital.com/make/vol01/?pg=130&pm=1&u1=friend

Are there any goose neck lights sitting around at your house, or at the museum? These could be helpful for KAYSC spring break and future LTC classes. (And maybe were the inspiration for the rigs that Brian told us about?)

Photoshop Cookies (A Stop Motion How-to)

On The Media this week

On The Media from WNYC had two stories this week which I thought were interesting and tie into some of the work we do. The first is about internet addition, but they interview some folks in South Korea about what public schools there are doing to prepare students for life on the internet. The second is their reaction to the introduction of the iPad and its future as our "fifth screen" which would tie together all of our other screens into one device.

Free Interesting Video Software

During one of the KAYSC drop-in days, they used guy's live chroma keying to do live karaoke. Along with live chroma keying, there are programs to trigger audio when different regions of video are entered, a stop motion program, and more. http://www.zachpoff.com/site/software/software.html

Podcast Crew Production

Podcast Crew Interview Well, until the YSC gets its own blog I'll share this over here. The Podcast Crew has been shooting their first video this last week and a half. Here is a shot of them conducting and interview on 4M. We're using the same cameras that the LTC just got, and we'll be editing in Final Cut Express starting next week!

Can gaming change education?

"According to a recent paper by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), games, when developed correctly and used appropriately, can engage players in learning that is specifically applicable to school curriculum—and teachers can leverage the learning in these games without disrupting the worlds of either "play" or school."  http://ow.ly/NUT2

Rock Star Supply Co.

I've heard folks talking around the museum about 826 Valencia, in a few different settings (watch this for those you haven't heard of it http://www.ted.com/talks/lang/eng/dave_eggers_makes_his_ted_prize_wish_once_upon_a_school.html). Anyhow, I got a message from a friend who is on the leadership team for Rock Star Supply Co., a similar venture on the University Corridor...youth recording space, tutoring center, and...a rock star supply store.

Novelty on the road.

For those of you without an iPhone, or a data plan, there is still the chance to post to shimmering glitters while on the road. Megabus now (or has for a while, but I haven't had a device to use it with) has wifi on their buses. For $30 you can get to MKE with Internet included, then walk the couple of blocks towards the lake to Discovery World, a really beautiful STEaM museum. Anyhow, the point of all this is that megabus has wifi, and I wanted to try it out.
