Help Downloading Microworld Files

Downloading MicroWorlds files:
The MicroWorlds projects on the class pages are compressed and saved as .zip files. To save them on your computer, click on the download game or download project link on the class page, and save the file to your computer.

Use an unzipping utility, such as WinZip or StuffIt Expander (Windows) or StuffIt Expander (Mac), to unzip the file and save it on your computer.

Opening MicroWorlds files:
Once the MicroWorlds file is saved and unzipped, you are ready to open it.

Windows:
Open MicroWorlds and use the File -> Open menu to select and open the file.

Mac:
The files on the web are saved as Windows versions, so the initial opening process is slightly more involved on a Mac. Once you have opened and saved the file once, though, you can always open a file by using the File -> Open menu option in MicroWorlds.

To open a project for the first time:
  1. Make sure the project is saved in a folder (not just on the desktop).
  2. Open MicroWorlds.
  3. Choose File -> Open and navigate to the folder where you saved the project (you won't see the file in the list), then click Cancel.
  4. In MicroWorlds' Command Center (the gray box at the bottom), type:
    import "filename.mw2
    where filename is your project name. Be sure to use a quotation mark before the filename with no space in between.
  5. The project should now be open in MicroWorlds. You will need to save it and give it a name. Opening it from this point will be just like opening any other file on your Mac!
