Learn at Homeschool Classes

The Science Museum of Minnesota has exciting homeschool classes available for families looking to supplement their science curriculum, explore physics, biology, engineering and more with our specialized equipment and expert teachers, and network with other homeschooling families.

Winter/Spring Homeschool Classes

We offer in-depth, multi-week classes in a variety of science and engineering disciplines.

Homeschool Space Travel
Each day will focus on a different space topic: sun, moon, stars, solar system, comets and other celestial bodies, and humans in space. Learn to identify constellations, make a model comet, and simulate some of the physiological experiences humans experience in space. Attend a special telescope party one night with your family and astronomy educator Ron Schmit.
Six Wednesdays, Jan 25, Feb 1, 8, 15, 22 and 29; 9:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m.
Ages: 7-9
Fee: $178 ($160 for Science Museum members)
Course Code: YHHST0125 Register Online

Homeschool Astronomy
Use hands-on activities that focus on gravity and the earth's shape and orbit. Examine the connection of the earth to the sun. Observe the moon and stars and create models that explain your observations. Evaluate data on world temperature and hours of sunlight. Attend a special telescope party one night with your family and astronomy educator Ron Schmit.
Six Wednesdays, Jan 25, Feb 1, 8, 15, 22 and 29; 9:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m.
Ages: 10-13
Fee: $178 ($160 for Science Museum members)
Course code: YJAST0125 Register Online

NEW! Homeschool Electricity and Magnetism
An introduction to basic properties of electricity and magnetism. Test magnetic and non-magnetic materials. Experiment with conductors and insulators. Gain experience designing electrical devices. Build bulb and battery holders and switches. Use circuit construction to construct a flashlight.
Four Thursdays, Feb 2, 9, 16 and 23; 9:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m.
Ages: 7-9
Fee: $112 ($100 for Science Museum members)
Course Code: YHEMH0202 Register Online

Homeschool Engineering: Aerospace Engineers
Create a spacecraft to explore a planet. Model drag and resistance. Design, build and test effective parachute design. Learn about the properties of air and gravity to compare Earth's atmosphere to space.
