Maintenance
Leon Wiens - Exhibit Maintenance Manager
Leon is our maintenance manager, keeping all permanent and temporary exhibits up and running. That's over 60,000 square feet of highly interactive exhibits, but Leon and his crew keep over 90% of them working at all times.
Leon has an extensive educational background, preparing him to maintain the wide variety of exhibit the Museum produces. Before coming to the Science Museum, he studied Refrigeration Mechanics at Thermo King Service School. He holds an AA degree in Model Making from Green Bay Technical College and a Vocational Degree in Electrical and Refrigeration Appliance Repair. In addition Leon has also studied management, fine arts photography, art appreciation, urban planning and studio drawing from the University of Wisconsin in Green Bay.
When asked to name his favorite non-Science Museum exhibit, Leon replied, "Any special community event or show, driven by a love for a special interest, e.g. Butterfield Thrashing Bee, Back to the '50s Car Show, 4-H Cattle Showmanship contests at the Minnesota State Fair, etc. A big key to these events is an attention to detail. There is a passing of a generation doing a high level of museum-quality work, despite not being museologists themselves."
