Meet the lifelike intelligent beings known as robots—machines we have created to extend our human capabilities, make our lives more comfortable, and amuse us as well. At the same time, robots challenge us to consider: what is life? What is intelligence? And can machines of our own invention ever achieve these states? The answer lies at the curious intersection where humans meet machines. A 5,000-square-foot traveling exhibit explores the history of robots in science and in popular culture, and examines the many factors that go into their creation, including artificial intelligence, vision, hearing, locomotion and communication. Displays include research robots straight out of laboratories, as well as actual robots and artificial intelligence programs which visitors can manipulate and control.
