Civic leaders in Henderson, Nevada, outside of Las Vegas, have been working toward creation of the Henderson Space and Science Center (HSSC) for many years. The region is primed for this; despite its large population Southern Nevada does not have a science center. The Science Museum of Minnesota is working with architects, City of Henderson officials and HSSC staff to create an exhibit master plan for the HSSC. This new facility will include over 40,000 square feet of exhibitions and include a full array of program spaces and visitor amenities. HSSC will support science education in elementary and secondary schools in the region, and provide families with a world-class facility that reflects the unique strengths and stories of Southern Nevada. Based on our long experience creating our own facility and helping design other museums, the Science Museum of Minnesota is also working closely with the project team on all aspects of museum design, visitor services, and building functions. Within the next five years the Science Museum expects to lead the design and production of exhibits for the Henderson Space and Science Center, helping it usher in a new future for students and citizens of Southern Nevada. |
