Museum of the Great Plains

The Museum of the Great Plains is a regional history museum located in Lawton, Oklahoma. Through its educational programs and 25,000 square feet of exhibit galleries, the Museum of the Great Plains (MGP) explores the ethnology, natural history, and cultural history of the Great Plains with a focus on the history of southwest Oklahoma. The Science Museum of Minnesota is working with MGP to revitalize 17,000 square feet of exhibits as the new Donald W. Reynolds Great Plains Discovery Center. The Science Museum of Minnesota is creating new interactive exhibits and activities to add layers of meaning to objects from the museum's rich collections and provide MGP's primary audience, families with grade school children, with a user-friendly museum that brings history to life. Opportunities for role playing will enable visitors to explore the lives of people from other cultures and time periods in the Following the Buffalo and Town Life areas of the galleries. In Back in the Lab visitors will be able to experience some of the activities and processes scientists use in MGP's archeological lab to explore past environments.
