Drafting

Person drafting near the dig Accurate, reliable drawings are a standard means of recording the process of site excavation and documenting many of the objects found. Site maps are drawn to record the shape and contours of the mound, and to locate all areas being excavated; walls and floors of excavation units are drawn to record the "stratigraphy" of deposits; specific "features" like ovens, pits, and burials are drawn to record their details and relationships; in the lab artifacts are drawn as highly accurate scientific illustrations which are capable of showing details that are even difficult to clearly show in a photograph.
