this will most likely run into problems, besides wasting money that could be put to better use. health care needs money for causes as it is already, and we should focus on those first.

Nanotechnology is, in my opinion, the key to getting us to the far reaches of the universe. I forsee space exploration as the key to giving humans a more rational vision of our existence. This may enable us to look past our differences and disputes over land and beliefs. When the universe can be traversed, we may redirect our negative energy towards a positive endeavor.

Nanotechnology may provide the key to fuels, subatomic manipulations, and other current roadblocks in travel. It may save our very race. In the least, it may give some the option to leave the planet before the next evolutionary bottleneck.

although nanotech. is more costy at this point in time, there will reach a point where the curve will change and nanotech. w/ill be the cost efficient way to go. how far into the future this will be: Who knows? but it will happen. look at the industrial revolution, wood was cheap. everyone uses wood. then here comes coal. coal is not cheap. money is investedintothe research and uses of the substance and bammo. everyone uses coal.
sure there will be problems but thats life.

The technology needs ethics it does not matter how big or small. Technology has always had its critics when it is new, and they are full of reasons why it wont work. They rarely admit they were wrong afterward. If you think it cant be done: stand back, get out of the way and watch minneota schools and industry lead the way into the future.

Its true that we need to focus on health care first, but nanotechnology may, at the moment may seem costly, but in the long run it could help millions of people from getting cancer or help detect cancer earlier and even possible destroy cancer cells in the body. Interesting that you bring up a cure for cancer. Nanotechnology has a ton of interesting and practical applications that go WAY beyond Dockers stain-repellent pants.

This is always a challenge in science. What you fund today may not seem important in comparison to the many important problems we currently face. But today's esoteric research may be tomorrow's world energy solution. Whatever gets funded, it is important for the public to be involved in this dialog. To get informed you might want to look at where the US government is putting its dollars in nanotech programs (numbers are in millions of dollars):

Hmm, well while I share your enthusiasm for lasers, I don't think we should be thinking about taking out Alabama with them. But seriously there are some efforts to incorporate nanotechnology research with laser technology.

This super fast laser might be able to etch circuits at around 20 nanometers.

This story talks about a laser that could help us detect individual viruses on the nanoscale. Scientists have figured out a way to see tiny variations in a laser as it bounces off of DNA or a virus. This could be used to test for all kinds of conditions in the body.

So yeah...nanotechnology and lasers. We're on that.

"Nanos" are not a thing. Using nanotechnology is not equal to dangerous. But there is allot of science fiction and even futuristic science thought about nano scale devices taking over all of nature. Most of these theories have been shown to be highly unlikely. What is more likely, is the prospect of nanotechnology causing small scale health problems for those who work in the labs and factories producing these materials. The communities around these production facilities may also be affected by unsafe leakage of nanoscale pollutants into the environment.
