it is fun to play butttttttttttt!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! it is not good for you becuse if you play then you wont be smart and yuo maybe will not get good grades which your parents will be mad at you know
If studies have shown that sex and violence depicted in the media (which includes video games) have life-long effects on a person's psyche, then theyre powerful enough to cause an addiction.
I dont play vidio games, but I now people who cant go a day with out it.( mostly boys) I probly play vidio games about once or thice a year. They can be fun sometimes, but I would rather be reading.
yeah. One time my friend played zelda for two and a half days straight. When he was done all he could do was hum the theme song and walk around with his eyes bulging out of his head. I don't even think he got up to use the restroom the entire time! Definitely addicting.
. It is very addicting when you get into one ...You don't want to spend time with your friends and family after school, because you would rather play wars with your clan than go outside because you think that your going to be a professional gamer when you are older. You even sometimes do not answer the phone in the middle of important parts during your game, though it is very easy to push that little start button to do so...this is how you can tell that you are addicted to games. Ans is is B.S if you think that such games as guitar hero, or rock band help keep you active....how so? they hurt your arms, big deal...you still wanna keep playing them until late at night, its still an addiction, your just moving your body more
Does anyone remember this guy?
Now, I'm sure he had some issues beyond really, really liking Everquest, or whatever, but clearly he, at least, had reached a point where he wasn't in control of his habit anymore.
The first videogame O.D.?
well i tthink people should not play games that much
don't get blind from watching yourself play game all day.
if we play so much games then you will be so into it and
you would never want to stop playing that game.I would
never want to play game all day!well thats it for now
I think that this explanation is an evasive explanation of why people refuse to take responsibility for their own actions. While playing video games might bring pleasure and activate various so called pleasure centers in the brain, that doesn't mean that one is incapable of stopping playing video games. Pleasure can also be found in other activities that encourage physical activity, social interaction, or self improvement projects.
My brother also plays a lot of video games. Many of them are filled with violence that isn't needed! How can we dream of world peace while, at the same time, subjecting young minds to the games that encourage them to kill others without a second thought? The sexual images also prominent in many of these games is also something that should be stopped. Why do people have to see pictures of half naked women? I'm sure that many of these racing games would do just as well without them! We should stand up and stop this heinous portrayal of women and the encouragement of violence to the younger, and older, population!
An addiction is an un-normal/unhealthy physcial or phsychological need to do a particular thing. Under this definition anything can become an addiction including video games.
I think that people can become addicted to video games, but they can become addicted to hte computer as well. I'm OBSESSED with the computer, truth be told. I do believe that anyone can become addicted to any electronical device (i.e laptop, iPod, cell phone, video games) and a heck of a lot more. My older sister, who's already in college, is obessesed with her cell phone and texts me any chance she gets. It totally rocks and all, but it probably ROTS her brain!!! So stay away from video games! They might just KILL YOU!!!! (lol)
I think it's possible to get addicted to video games in your mind, but it's all mental. You're body really has no craving for i, but your mind might. I do, however, think it would be an easy addiction to stop if 24/7 video game players would get a hobby. But I wouldn't really know because I don't play video games very often.
My sig!: Life is way too short, so, if you really want to, jump off the bridge that no one else even dares to jump off.
Today, children are growing up with little self-control instilled in them by their parents.. Actually, this probably began a generation ago with adults in thier early 30's having been raised with little discipline.
KIDS WILL BE ALWAYS KIDS BUT THINK SOMETHING IN CLEAR WAY KIDS CAN BE CREATIVE WHEN THEY PLAYING THE VIDEOGAMES, WHEN THEY GREW UP THEY CAN CREATE GRAPHIC FOR VIDEO GAMES. I SUPPORT THAT BUT DON'T PLAY TOO MUCH PLAYING OUTSIDE IS BEST THAN SIT ALLDAY WITH VIDEO GAMES.
MY FAVORTIE OF VIDEO GAMES IS SIMS CUZ ITS SAME AS WHAT YOU ARE DOING RIGHT NOW.
I THINK THAT VIDEO GAMES HAVE STARTED AS AN INNOCENT WAY OF INTERACTIVE ENJOYMENT BUT IT HAS TURNED OUT TO BE A HUGE DISTRACTION. INSTEAD OF KIDS GETTING ACTIVE DURING THE SUMMER THEY ARE ZONING OUT ON THEIR TVs. THEY MAY NOT BE ADDICTIVE BUT MOST AREN'T GOOD.
I think that kids will be kids also! So you need to let them play their
video games and at least once a week they can get on their cardio and
excersize a little more! Kids are sometimes gonna do what they want to do,
but as parents you should be there to help your child(s) to do what they need to do as far as being healthy,
doing chores, helping them to be a success in their life and being a good parent with
their kids!!!
Have you ever thought that it might be the parents fault that the child becomes addicted? It is up to the parents to monitor their childs usage of the computer or console. In adults, it is their own responsibility to monitor their own usage of how much they play games. Sure, some people may be addicted to the computer, I for one am, but I am not always playing games. There are many other things to do rather than just play games. Although, I do balance this out with out door recreational activity. Gameing addictions do happen, but their just as easily broken. Anything can become an addiction if you enjoy it enough. Just look at World of Warcraft.
yes i think that it might be there fault... they should be monitoiring their chilldrens use of the computer the addiction can be broken but but i think it should not even be started so by that way they can have complete control over what their childen are up too.
people can definetly become addicted to video games because i dont even have a ps ...and yet whenever i get the chance im playing!!!they can DEFINETLY become an addiction!!!!
Like any behavior that offers some kind of stimuli, playing video games certainly can become a compulsion (I prefer that term to "addiction" in this case, but that's splitting hairs).
Games are fun, socially acceptable, relatively inexpensive (as far as additions/compulsions go), escapist, and provide a theoretically endless set of challenges that can be measured (through points, levels, screens, etc.).
One of my favorite episodes of Star Trek: The Next Generation, titled The Game, showed the Enterprise crew become almost consumed by a neuro-optic video game designed to produce the psychological and physical effects of a highly addictive drug.
As with anything in life, video games can be addictive. The trick is to balance real life with the pleasure of gaming. Life is a series of compromises, and choices. We can choose to ignore reality, we can choose to not be responsible, and we can choose to not grow up (mentally). We also have the choice to accept reality, accept responsibility, and accept consequences of our actions. Balance is good, as real life can be lots of fun too. Personally, I love God of War, and Burnout. I also LOVE my job (truck driving), as well as my friends and family. It's ALL good (even when it isn't). It's all in how you choose to look at it.
My kids and grandkids are totally addicted to video games! I can appreciate a reasonable amount of timing doing any activity, however playing video games for hours on end is not healthy! I've seen my grandkids get out of bed and head right to screen! That is addictive behavior.
You could tell my 13 year old son the house is burning down and it wouldn't matter if he was in the middle of a game. I do believe children get addicted to video games and think we as parents need to monitor the time spent on computer, video and hand-held games The 30 minutes the experts tell us to let them use them each day is reasonable in the winter, but during summer break I do allow 1- 1 1/2 hours per day as they have so much more leisure time to fill.
It is possible to become addicted to video games. One has to exercise good discipline to prrevent themselves from becoming a slave to playing games. Life is too short to spend so much time at this form of entertainment. Time to remove oneself from the game and begin interacting with family, friends and community; this will enrich one's life so much more!! Playing games is okay, but it shouldn't be all one does!!!
I think that anything can be addicting if you have enough of it.Video games are fun but sometimes it is better to just go out and play(unless you have a Wii).
videogames are one of the most addicting things in the us. but how? people love videogames for the world it takes you in its like a whole another planet earth aand how it bends realality, its just so fun i just cant stop right then and thier i love videogamesand am good at everyone i played. so yes videogames do cause additction and can easily too so if you dont want to get pulled in dont play them in the first place. but its a fun awesome sensation so please if you have never tried it then give it a try when you go home today and youll LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! thank you for reading. so to summerize this i say its not easy to quit!!!
video games dont rlly matter if they have violence and what not bcuz either way their gonna see it!! and if u wanted to u could jus go out and get a life...u dont have to be at the tv 24/7 go have fun w/other ppl besides sumone on the video game!!
yes, i think that someone can get addicted to video games. okay like there is someone at my school that is completely into video games. and when he went home that is all he would do all day and all night. it is so crazy. i admit that i play tons of video games but that is not what i spend all my time on. i dont spend all my money on video games either.
I think it is possible to get addicted to video games...I mean look at us kids today... have you noticed that we rre playing video games constantly??? Addiction!!!! Mwahahahahahahahahahah...most kids even spend their allowance on just video gammes (and candy)
i dobt peoplejust like to play and dont want to to but they can choose to stop. take me for example i played a game for 100 hours strate just because i did not want tto taop i wated to play for 10 more hours but i decided not to because i could stop i wasnt addicited. so ha
yeah people can get addiicted to anything!!!! i watched this t.v show once and this guy was addicted to them!!!! people can get addicted to anything!!!!!
Video games are a form of art, and you don't say painting is addictive. Besides there has to be a reason why kids would rather play video games all day than spend time with their parents. Must be bad parenting!
Which is why I've been saying for years that people should spend more time staring at blank walls. Sure, it's not very fun, nor does it usually require a lot of problem solving skills, but think of the exercise value!! I'm glad that fact was brought up. It's very important that we consider the facts.
Also, this is kind of ironic, but I've always considered junk food to be video games for the stomach! And what's the harm in giving your stomach some videogames now and again? I think it's a very good analogy.
Isn't it weird how people can think so alike, and yet so differently, all at the same time.
Yeah, I'm kind of addicted to video games. I have a friend who is kind of addicted to heroin, and we get together and talk about, like, how I can't stop playing Bubble-Bobble on the NES, and how he can't stop injecting illegal drugs into the veins on his feet.
Sharing our common experiences can be very helpful, I think.
I play a lot of video games. Love 'em. LOVE THEM. I get "addicted" to a game, but only until I have cleared it. Then I lose all interest. And playing is not what is addictive, it is the goal to clear the game, save the princess, destroy the last boss, whatever. But if I don't have a fun game, I am not interested - I don't play just to play. That said, I have managed to avoid all on line games as I fear that they will be the death of me - I watched someone play City of Heroes once and I had to restrain myself for weeks to not join in and play because I could easily see it consuming my life. And since it seems like there is no way to "clear" the game I would play it endlessly.
vidoe games are fun and all but its not good for your brain. you should only play for maybe 30 minutes to 1 hour. and then maybe you should read a book afterwards. by the way im a kid
Yes, people can get addicted to video games. My kids become completely different people when they play video games too much. The only remedy is to go cold turkey!
I personally don't feel the need to play a game obsessively even if I'm really into it. I like playing it but i dont miss it when I'm at work or out doing something else. I enjoy it like a good book..if the game has a good story, I want to see its outcome. Games that have little or no story, or don't need at least some thought/problem solving to play, dont tend to hold my interest long at all.
However I *have* heard the stories of people sitting glued to their game for days on end, missing work or school to do so..so obviously some people get 'addicted'.
So I guess in answer to this forums' question, yes i feel people can get addicted to video gaming, but I dont think its the video game itself that causes the addiction. If someone plays them obsessively to the point it hurts their day to day life, then they probably have an addictive personaltiy. In that case if it wasn't video games, it would probably be something else eating up all their time. Does the fact that people can get obsessed with them to that point put video games into the realm of addictive substances and allow it to be classed medically as an 'addiction' with video game help groups and meetings? Or should the focus more be on people with addictive tendencies in general. I see alot of grey area there.
A few years ago I would have said that video games are for lazy, unintellectual people. This summer, though, my sisters got a couple of video games (DDR and Guitar Hero) and I found out just how wrong I was! Video games are awesome and have helped me to gain hand-eye and foot-eye coordination (before i was really clumsy and uncoordinated). They didn't dent my straight A's or make me any lazier, like I had expected them to. I don't know about addiction...I mean, I personally can go a few days without playing, but I guess anybody can get addicted to anything. But is there a difference between addicts and fanatics? are these people addicted or just enthusiastic?
Well, either way, video games are certainly NOT bad. They do not ruin your brain or make you stupid.
Yes, I think you can. The reason i say this is because you can get addicted to just about anything. For example people can be addicted to phones, computers, shoes, and etc. So I think you can get addicted to games.
I would like to prove a fact here, and I will. Heres the fact. Some peoples brains are stimulated by different things in ways that allow them to seriously enjoy the activity that they are doing at the time. Whatever it may be. It could be writing, reading, poetry, drawing, using a computer, talking on your cell phone or text messaging, exercising, playing a sport and last but not least video games. All of these activities are simulating to the brain in some form of way. But as a true video gamer. I can tell you that if you are one with an imagination and have learned how to play a video game console you will be addicted. I mean addicted as in not only will you find yourself playing more games. You won't be able to get enough video games thus playing them longer and for longer periods of time. The reason for this is because our brains become so stimulated by the visuals of the game and the intensity that it brings that it further draws us more and more into the game. Advanced video games (as I will call them) are not for beginners, and a beginner is someone who doesn't understand the controls of the remote they are using to manipulate the character that you are playing in the game or whatever it may be. But someone who constantly plays video games not only is addicted, but their brain craves the creativity the game gives them. Thus FURTHER more drawing that person even more into the game NOT ONLY causing them to crave this desired effect the game gives, but they simply cannot remove themselves from the game because the game is so stimulating that its more powerful than an exercise you could do, a book you could read, talking on your cell phone or whatever else you may or might do with your time. For those minds that live in a fantasy world, and this means outside of a video game where they enjoy taking on the role of a different character and absolutely LOVE being able to manipulate that character in the game using these new found skills they've honed. Its simply and I quote unquote this *the most intense and immensely simulating activity a brain can endure*.
Now I'm sure someone reading this is going to disagree with me, and I can only imagine that a few video gamers who really like video games, but don't play that often will also disagree. But the fact is anyone who's taken heart and indulged into a video game knows and understands how stimulating it is. Anyone else who says they are boring simply cannot relate to the character or fascination of the game itself and thus they are not *into* or able to get into the game. Video games are like reading a book. Like a book you can seriously get drawn into the book and once its time to put down that book you may find it hard because you want to know whats going to happen next. You want to visualize the excitement it may bring or the mystery or whatever it may be! I love books to so i'm not hating on book readers because they are very stimulating to my imagination as well.
But I must say this. Video games are amazingly addictive especially to someone that gets bored easily. Because video games simply eliminate that boredom with a stimuli from doing objectives in the game that allow you to progress which simply draw the person playing the game further more. That is all I am really want to say. Feel free to email me on this subject. I'm addicting to computers and video games for over 10 years. I know the feeling, and I know what kind of psychological effect they can bring just from spending countless hours away from society, friends, family, and in general doing other activities as well. Its hard. Real hard to pull away from an addicting game to do something else. Not even willpower and sheer obedience.
Growing up I was not allowed to have a video game until I was 11 for this very reason. My sister just got a new game and yes she is totally addictied I don't really care much for video games but the Wii does get you up and moving wich is a plus unlike other gaming systems.
Peace on Earth:)
I think that it depends on how the person is. If the person has an addictive personality then that person will be addicted to the video game.
People who do not have their priorities straight will more than likely be addicted to the games. The game should not b controlled with the time because the child or person will just feel they need it more. If they have no limit they will eventually get bored with what they are doing and move onto something different.
so yeah i saw that someone was slashing on the parents for this one?
that is not true. The parents only can limit the time they don't get to limit how addicted a child will become to this game.
Video games are only addictive if you allow them to be. Let your kid play all day they will. I find out the more you restrict them from learning from their mistakes the more they will want to do something you don't want them doing. My daughters x box is out all the time. Therefore she is not really addicted to it because she is sick of seeing it out in the open therefore she does not play it everyday. If your so concerned about violent video games then don't buy them. I only buy used kids games, and my kids don't get money to buy their own things. They are children, and not adults. The problem is not videogames but your rules at home. Anything can become an addiction if you allow it to happen.
video games dont make you stupid and no way is reading a book gunna give you more then a video game....because in a book you dont solve a problem..or have any fun cough cough but in a video game its a immersive experinse in a book all your doing is imagining things in a video game your doing all that and more
well, i think they can....... because you can get addicted to anything................ANYTHING!!!!!!!!!!!
This is so true im addicted to videogames i play the 24/7 but i also think of girls specifically elise 24/8
computer games are the work of the devil they must be banned from erth god commands it
this is not true. i love playing games they help me unwind and stuff. MAY GAMES LIVE.
u can become addicted to anything if you do it repeatedly over and over again...
your totally right about that ppl can get addicted to games of any sort!!!!!
video games are like so fun, but after a while they get boring so for only a whilr are they addictive
it is fun to play butttttttttttt!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! it is not good for you becuse if you play then you wont be smart and yuo maybe will not get good grades which your parents will be mad at you know
because pretty much anything can be addicting
yes..but only the the good games...and isnt gambling like video games?? if they are(and i like to think so) then she is really addicted...lol
They can be fun sometimes, but I would rather be reading.
cause i used to play video games all thetime and i hardly play them at all anymore

in love at 29
well, how do you define addiction? why quit playing video games if they're fun? But yes...they are addicting if you cant stop playing them.
yeah. One time my friend played zelda for two and a half days straight. When he was done all he could do was hum the theme song and walk around with his eyes bulging out of his head. I don't even think he got up to use the restroom the entire time! Definitely addicting.
I think that you can only get addicted to food and drugs
almost anything is addictable you dont know so you shouldnt be posting that
i agree

yea i remember that game it was so addicting...but that was an old habit...
kids are not addicted because i play video games all the time and i stoped playing for two months
well i tthink people should not play games that much

My brother plays video games so much i think it rots his brain.
kinda it`s a way to do somthing eals just to get away
dude video games rock!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
vidieo games are awsome. xbox is the best!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Video games can't rot your brain. He just uses all his brain power on the video game so that when he is not doing something else he is not it to it...
oh yes they can
I think you van get addicted to tv, viedo games, movies, and computer games.

Video games rock no matter what other people say you have your own opinion.
video games contribute heavily to outdoor deficit disorder (ODD) behavior.
becuse its easy todo they think it is serios.
THEY MAY NOT BE ADDICTIVE BUT MOST AREN'T GOOD.

they make your brain go numb and stupid. No more thoughts of your own.
people can definetly become addicted to video games because i dont even have a ps ...and yet whenever i get the chance im playing!!!they can DEFINETLY become an addiction!!!!
Many of my friends play video games non-stop, so it can become an addiction.
my friend likes to play video games and he doesnt come out side so how m i supposed to deal with this
well, go outside by yourself, and when he sees how much fun you are having, he will come out and follow.

i say no way
i thhink you cannot become addicted because u couldalways stopv
Yes, you can. I'm not addicted to computer games but to my computer and anyone who sat on this computer and checked out what this was, is too.
of corse i do
My kids and grandkids are totally addicted to video games! I can appreciate a reasonable amount of timing doing any activity, however playing video games for hours on end is not healthy! I've seen my grandkids get out of bed and head right to screen! That is addictive behavior.

duh, video games are addictive, i would pay so much to play one now!!!!!!!

yes, i think that someone can get addicted to video games. okay like there is someone at my school that is completely into video games. and when he went home that is all he would do all day and all night. it is so crazy. i admit that i play tons of video games but that is not what i spend all my time on. i dont spend all my money on video games either.
PEOPLE CAN BECOME ADDICTED TO MOST EVERYTHING...
of courese people can become addicted to most anything. if you get enough of something and then become dependant on it you can get addicted
Of course. Anything that activates the reward system of the brain can be considered addictive, and video games obviously do that...
Video games are a form of art, and you don't say painting is addictive. Besides there has to be a reason why kids would rather play video games all day than spend time with their parents. Must be bad parenting!
Video games are junk food for the brain. An additional fact - one expends more calories staring at a blank wall as compared to staring at a TV show
Which is why I've been saying for years that people should spend more time staring at blank walls.
Isn't it weird how people can think so alike, and yet so differently, all at the same time.
definately
I believe so
b/c thats how i personally am...
No, heck no i play video games all the time and still get bored of them somrtimes!
videogames stink
I play a lot of video games. Love 'em. LOVE THEM. I get "addicted" to a game, but only until I have cleared it. Then I lose all interest. And playing is not what is addictive, it is the goal to clear the game, save the princess, destroy the last boss, whatever. But if I don't have a fun game, I am not interested - I don't play just to play. That said, I have managed to avoid all on line games as I fear that they will be the death of me - I watched someone play City of Heroes once and I had to restrain myself for weeks to not join in and play because I could easily see it consuming my life. And since it seems like there is no way to "clear" the game I would play it endlessly.
i am absolutelty adicted to video games, i can't stop playing them.
i am sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo addicted to video games!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
vidoe games are fun and all but its not good for your brain. you should only play for maybe 30 minutes to 1 hour. and then maybe you should read a book afterwards. by the way im a kid
video game r sweet
Yes, people can get addicted to video games. My kids become completely different people when they play video games too much. The only remedy is to go cold turkey!
what can i say? once u start playin u cant stop. nice job, gettin urself addicted
I see alot of grey area there.
you can stop eventually cause you have a choice then the only thing that you want is to manage your time!!!!! and
every thing follows!!!
Sure they can!.. I know I am
Not even willpower and sheer obedience.
games are fun. maybe to much fun
Growing up I was not allowed to have a video game until I was 11 for this very reason. My sister just got a new game and yes she is totally addictied I don't really care much for video games but the Wii does get you up and moving wich is a plus unlike other gaming systems.
Peace on Earth:)
i think kids shouldn't play video games at all, escept the sims 2 of course
I totally love wii
I got gutuir hearo on xmas
ds
and games thankyou so much
I think that it depends on how the person is.
The parents only can limit the time they don't get to limit how addicted a child will become to this game.
jeeze people... use some common SENSE.
Anything can become an addiction if you allow it to happen.
video games make you smarter
video games dont make you stupid and no way is reading a book gunna give you more then a video game....because in a book you dont solve a problem..or have any fun cough cough but in a video game its a immersive experinse in a book all your doing is imagining things in a video game your doing all that and more
Straight up. I can't get off games, and I need to find a job :(
