Clay sculpture of a 'Devil Bus'
Ocumicho, Michoacan, Mexico
Clay
This clay sculpture is an example of arte fantastico (fanciful or whimsical art) from the village of Ocumicho, Michoacan, Mexico. The origin of the form probably grew out of toy making. The women creating these sculptures use their imagination to create individual tableaux often incorporating grotesque and humorous imagery. The Science Museum of Minnesota still collects ceramics in North and Central America.
