I am looking for information on good hunting spots for this mushroom in the UP. I am in IN and if it's dry here, I may travel there to photograph large groupings of this photogenic species. Could give me the exact location of your find in the pic? With some specifics, I might be able to locate it on Google Earth. And/or could you tell me other spots and habitats where they grow best? What about planted tree plantations?

thanks

Hid

I have no personal experience with liberty cap mushrooms. A google search I did turned up this warning.

Eat one wrong mushroom and, up to 2 weeks later symptoms develop, and the only chance of saving your life is a liver or kidney transplant. A mushroom should never be eaten unless you are 100% sure in its identification. Even experienced mushroom gatherers have made errors. Do not take this warning lightly.

More advice on Identifying And Picking Magic Mushrooms can be seen by clicking this link. The scientific name for the liberty cap mushroom is Psilocybe semilanceata.
