Virtual Garden software screenshotAs someone who is more inclined to get my hands dirty in code than in dirt, I was tickled to discover some software that will let me do a little of both.
My back yard is ripe for a garden, but I don't know where to begin, so my first step is to plot it out using the BBC's Virtual Garden.
First, enter the dimensions of your space, then fill it in with deck or patio areas, chairs, tables, grassy areas and walls, where they occur. Then, pulling from their database, add your foxglove, bamboo, hostas, and japanese maples.
Once you are done, click a button to navigate your garden in 3D! Very fun, but the one drawback I found was the lack of selection of plants. There is a button to check for additions to the plant database, so perhaps they plan to expand the list in the future.
