Courtesy Dallas75Archaeologists have discovered another pyramid in Saqqara, the twelfth to be found at that site. Saqqara is a sprawling burial site located south of Cairo, Egypt and home of the oldest known pyramid in Egypt, the step pyramid. About two months ago, Egyptian antiquities chief Zahi Hawass and a team of excavators realized that the base of a pyramid was buried under 65 feet of sand. The pyramid is thought to have been built a few hundred years after the Great Pyramids, making it about 4,300 years old. Hawass thinks the pyramid was most likely a monument to Queen Sesheshet. The team will further investigate the pyramid this month to find out if it was the queen’s. More information can be found in this Star Tribune article New pyramid discovered in Egypt

Dave Letterman had a good observation about this discovery the other night: "They've found a 4,300-year-old pyramid in Egypt. It turns out it's another house that John McCain forgot the he owned."
