long after you die. Many people nowadays have given their body to
science. This awkward suggestion benefits medical research and gives
u a chance to help out.

kpat, if you're interested in the subject of body donation, it's something we've talked about on Buzz a bunch.

We did a feature on the science behind body donation when the Science Museum of Minnesota was hosting the BodyWorlds exhibit. There are tons of links from that page to all sorts of related topics.

Right now, we're running a feature on forensic entomology to coincide with the run of "CSI: The Experience" here at SMM. That feature includes a poll pretty similar to the questions you pose. Go see how people are voting!

We had five experts--two bioethicists, a physician, a transplant surgeon, and the director of an anatomical bequest program--answer visitors' questions.

There is a proposal to build a Forensic Anthropology Center, like the famous "Body Farm" in Tennessee, in Iowa.

And if you type "body donation" into the search bar, lots of related pages pop up. Happy browsing.

It's cool that you posted a picture too! A lot of pictures, though, are owned by the people who took them, and you need to get permission to used them legally. If they come from a site like National Geographic, getting that permission can be tricky. A good site to find pictures is flickr.com's "Creative Commons" section—you can use those as long as you say who originally took the picture.

To search creative commons, go to this page, and click on the "Only search within Creative Commons" button.

But a lot of people choose to donate their bodies to science after they die, hoping that doctors and scientists can use their remains to learn things that will eventually help others. If someone wanted to donate their body, but their wishes were ignored, that would be disrespectful to them, wouldn't it?
