Knut update: Polar bear cub needs to diet

by Thor on Aug. 07th, 2007

With all the big news of last week, you might have overlooked this nugget from Berlin, Germany. Knut the polar bear cub is going on a diet. At eight months old, he now weighs a hefty 132 pounds. He’s especially got a sweet tooth for croissants. To keep Knut’s weight in check, he’ll be cutting down to three meals, from four, per day. And forget the croissants!

You should better to do some research before writing.
His official website and blog denied the rumor of his being on a diet.
He is now given less baby food and more adult foods such as fish, meet, veggies, and sometimes croissants.

Well, sure he'd want to deny that he's on a diet. It may have worked for Kirstie Alley, but that sort of thing won't fly for a young German polar bear. No, I suspect Thor's info is coming from a source closer to Knut that his publicist.
Besides, we all know that blogs are not to be trusted.

Kind of an ironic point - Knut eats fish, meat, veggies, and sometimes croissants, and I eat raw seal blubber, and sometimes croissants. And I only weigh a little more than him. Go figure.

The Associated Press was the source for this latest Knut news. I read it in the Star Tribune and also heard is mentioned on one of the TV news shows. But now you've really got me worried. You never want to call out a polar bear on his diet and wonder if he'll be holding that against you for the rest of your life.

Oh Thor, Knut will never consent to a Matt Lauer-like one-on-one interview with you now!

I suspect the Strib and the TV both got it from AP. This is what happens when you rely on the Mainstream Media. ;-)
