Homeless?: A preserve where rare pandas live and breed was at the epicenter of the strong earthquake that hit China yesterday.

UPDATE MAY 14: Panda people, you can breath easier again. All is well with the 86 pandas at the nature reserve at the heart of the Chinese earthquake. Electricty is still out at the preserve, but the pandas are fine.
UPDATE MAY 19: Information from the Wolong Reserve continues to be in flux. Now there are reports that five people were killed at the site and three pandas are missing. You can get full details here.

I was able to visit the Wolong Panda Reserve 6 years ago, even holding a young panda on my lap - not unlike holding your cat while someone is trying to give him an immunization! The staff there is extremely dedicated to these animals and their survival. I worry about their safety as well as the animals. Most of the adult pandas there are in large outdoor enclosures, so I hope they will not have been affected much by the earthquake. The buildings are not tall - I don't remember any of them being mulit-story, so maybe that is also to their benefit.
Pandas only breed once a year and the young are born in early fall or late summer(around August - September), and I recall they do live in an enclosed nursery, so all of them would have been indoors, unless they were on their playground equipment.
Since I don't live in an earthquake-prone area, I don't know if tall, mulit-story buildings would be more dangerous during a quake. Hoping the pandas and their caretakers are well...
i mean i know the panda's were made to stay in the wild but if its going to affect them then they are going to have to get put were they get put
Poor pandas, i agree with Nelson, even if they are supposed to be in the wild if it will save them to move 'em then it should be done....
why bother staying on this earth if its just going to get endangered some how so i dont see why they keep on wrighting about the same thing over and over if they were so worried they could take care of them theirselves and not have to worry about endangered anything also when people kill the animals that makes the population go down why because they want or need to eat something.
I hope none of the died. They ain't that cute anyways

that is so sad earthquake is a bad thing.
earthquakes are a part of life so you can't chooes if you get them or not
